Neuroscience and a Secondary in Global Health and Health Policy

Hi, I'm Huong, and I'm a rising Junior at Harvard majoring in Neuroscience with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. I currently work in a stem cell research lab investigating functions and locations of a protein critical in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. I am interested in performing field research in underprivileged communities to help reduce health care disparity around the world. After college, I hope to continue with my neuroscience/global health research and travel the world before continuing my education at medical school and beyond.

Laila Khorasani

UCLA -

Neuroscience and Public Affairs

I am a rising fourth year neuroscience major and public affairs minor at UCLA with strong interests in biomedical research, health policy, and education. My career interests lie within academia and medicine, and I hope to combine my passions by pursuing a combined MD/PhD program.Brianna Alleyne-Popo

Harvard -

Social Anthropology and Pre-Med

I just graduated from Harvard with an A.B. in Social Anthropology on the pre-med track. After completing an M.M. in harp performance at the New England Conservatory this coming year, I plan on applying to MD-PhD programs in Anthropology to become a physician-anthropologist. Career wise, this will hopefully mean splitting my time between teaching Anthropology at the university level, seeing patients (currently leaning toward oncology as my specialty), and conducting fieldwork/research likely in China. Saeina Charles

Human Evolutionary Biology and Romance Languages and Literature

Secondary in Global Health/Health Policy

I want to work in public health and obstetrics, as well as research integrating both fields. Likely, I will consider a speciality in reproductive endocrinology or maternal-fetal medicine. I would like to combine public health knowledge and biomedical advances to address maternal health disparities, such as disparities in maternal mortality, low birth weight, and premature birth, as well as quality access to prenatal care.Ezra Taub

UBMC -

Biology and Modern Language (Russian and Spanish)

I am a senior majoring in Biology and Modern Languages with a concentration in Russian and Spanish. I plan on attending Medical School as well as getting a Masters in Public Health in order to practice humanitarian medicine for immigrant and refugee populations.Elaine Linares

Amherst -

Biology, Sociology and Pre-Med

My name is Tavus Atajanova! I am a sophomore at Amherst College, planning to double major in Biology and Sociology. I am also on the pre-medical track and hope to one day become a physician. I'm particularly interested in surgery, and systemic issues in our general society that create disparities in healthcare and lifestyle among people of disadvantaged communities. On campus, I am very involved in the Public Health Collaborative and the Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness programs.Cassandra Demas

Harvard -

Stem Cell Biology with minor in Education

Having graduated Harvard Class of 2020, I gained my degree in Stem Cell Biology with a minor in Education. I conducted both wet lab stem cell and statistical educational research over the 4 years at the College and will be working on similar topics for Boston Consulting Group come the Fall. I'm broadly interested in a career in business research utilizing scientific topics/methods.

Harvard-

Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology and Language Citation in Igbo

My name is Comfort Abuwa, and I am a fourth year Harvard student concentrating in Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology with a language citation in Igbo. I have a strong interest in the future of gene targeting therapy and treatment, as well as environmental sustainability and health care inequality. I completed my first research project in the Kevin Eggan Lab investigating the role of optineurin and autophagy in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis development. I returned to the Eggan Lab to complete my second project, which focused on developing neural progenitor cells and forebrain cortical excitatory neurons from 16p11.2 deletion/duplication Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) patient lines. I’ll be completing a senior thesis focusing on uncovering the epigenetic landscape of these 16p11.2 patient lines. I hope to continue my research in medical school and work to develop genetic therapies for patients who suffer from this subset of ASD and other
neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases.

Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology and Secondary in Ethnicity, Migration and Rights

I am a rising Junior at Harvard, concentrating in Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology with a secondary in Ethnicity, Migration, and Rights. I am interested in translational medicine and its potential to cure age-old diseases. I am planning on pursuing a career in medicine, with the goal of serving marginalized communities. Zaynab Azzouzi

Harvard-

Neuroscience and Social Anthropology

Hi, my name is Daniella Gomez-Ochoa. I am a rising senior at Harvard University studying neuroscience and social anthropology. I believe that a community can be viewed as a brain: people working together, as neurons fire, leading to emotional responses, and behavioral outcomes. However, this community can be disrupted if individuals are exposed to traumatic events in their early life. Nevertheless, due to the complexity of intergenerational epigenetic inheritance, conclusions can only be drawn after further research on epigenetics is developed. Because of this, I am currently developing a research project that focuses on the characterization of epigenetic patterns and depression protective factors.Dalila Salcedo-Marx
